The winter art exhibition was held at the Lancaster City Museum from the 22nd to 20th December 2008. The exhibition was of a very high standard and from a sales point of view, 30 paintings sold in a variety of media. In this economic climate this was a good result. The exhibition held at the City Museum is in the centre of town and makes an ideal venue. It was well appreciated and supported by the local public and visitors alike.

The workshop on Friday the 20th February was led by Don Holden. He encouraged the group to look at an image and to make a picture exciting and individual to oneself and not just a copy of a photograph.

Don guided the group as we glued strips of paper, newspaper for instance, on to the blank paper and then we were instructed to block in the main shapes of a building in waterproof ink. Over this base image we used ink, water based paints and opaque white to draw with ink and paint to build up an exciting picture.

The photograph on the left shows Don Holden describing how he produced one of his own pictures. The right hand picture shows the workshop in action.
