LANCASTER & DISTRICT ART SOCIETY
Formed in 1946, our Society aims to promote the practice and display of the painting and sculptural aspects of the visual arts. The programme of activities is designed to encourage, inspire and develop member's interests and skills as well as promoting the visual arts amongst the wider community.
Weekly meetings through the Autumn and Winter featuring:
- Demonstrations and tuition by professional artists.
- Tutored workshops by professional artists.
- Lectures by professional artists and art historians.
These meetings are also open to the public for a charge of £2 on the door. See events page for details.
Groups concentrating on particular subjects and/or media, meeting weekly through Autumn and Winter.
Outdoor painting and sketching days.
Visits to galleries and national collections.
Public exhibitions to give members the opportunity to sell their work.
The Society is run by the members on a very friendly and informal basis and is open to all aged 18 and over. Our membership ranges from absolute beginners to professional artists, as well as non painters with an interest in art. New members are always welcome.
The Officers and Committee are sad to announce the death of John
Rawlins. He was a popular and enthusiastic secretary of the society for
many years and he will be sadly missed. We send our sincere condolences
to his wife and family.
